Short Biography

Pianist – Composer – Teacher

Pianist and composer Falko Steinbach, Professor of Piano at UNM performs and teaches at many international festivals in America, Asia and Europe. He gave his first public recital at age twelve and won his first piano competition at seventeen. He studied piano performance at the Musikhochschule Köln and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and accomplished four music degrees in piano performance, piano pedagogy and theory, his highest being a “Konzertexamen” (equivalent to a DMA).

In 1987 Steinbach received a DAAD scholarship from the German government. He has recorded 16 CDs, published a book titled “A Compendium of Piano Technique” and is a Steinway artist. As a composer, Steinbach has created an extensive body with more than 60 compositions, among which 53 etudes for piano in 4 volumes,  his opera “Berlin Suite”, his oratorio “Apocalypse” and his piano concerto “Calamophyton”. An extraordinary number of reviews and articles as well as awards and two Doctoral Theses about his etudes reflect great respect and recognition for his unusual artistic, humanitarian and pedagogic achievements.
